The British University in Egypt admits students in line with the regulations set by the Egyptian Council of Private Universities, with offers made according to the criteria defined in the University’s Admission Policy. For our new Faculty, applicants will also be required to attend an admission interview. The University’s Admission Policy includes:
- The requirements set by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education for each type of High School Certificate
- The University's English language entry requirements
The requirements set by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education for each type of High School Certificate
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- hold the Egyptian General Secondary School Certificate (Thanaweya Amma) OR its equivalent of Arab and international high school certificates.
- the minimum entry score is decided by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education for each academic year.
A. Egyptian Thanawaya Amma Certificate
Applicants must have attained the Egyptian Thanawaya Amma Certificate with the following conditions: Arts, Mathematics or Science Section (all sections can apply).
B. IGCSE/GCSE
Applicants must have completed the IGCSE/GCSE with a minimum of 8 different approved subjects: Arts, Mathematics or Science section: English and any other 7 approved subjects.
C. American High School Diploma
Arts, Mathematics or Science section:
- EST1/ACT1/SAT1: 800
- GPA of 8 different subjects with a minimum of 1 credit hour for each.
English and any other 7 approved subjects.
D. Canadian High School Diploma
Arts, Mathematics and Science:
- GPA of 8 different subjects with a minimum of 1 credit hour for each.
English and any other 7 approved subjects.
E. French Baccalaureate
Arts & Mathematics – Science Section:
- High school transcript of 7 different subjects, including English and any other 6 approved subjects, with a minimum of 10 points required.
F. German Abitur
Arts – Mathematics or Science Section:
- High school transcript with a minimum of 7 different subjects in Abitur, including English and any other 6 approved subjects, with a minimum point of 1 for each subject.
G. Arab High School Certificate
H. Azharian High School Certificate
All Arab or Azharian high school certificates are qualified to apply, subject to meeting the decided entry requirements for the programme of study: Arts or Science Section: the approved national high school certificate of the relevant country.
The University's English language entry requirements
The British University in Egypt accepts a wide range of both national and international high school certificates. All applicants are required to determine their English level, which is assessed based on the type of high school certificate obtained.
A. International High School certificate
Holders of international high school certificates are exempt from the University’s English Test, provided they have achieved the required score/mark in the English subject of their high school, as outlined below:

Applicants who do not meet any of the mentioned exemption criteria are required to fulfill the University’s English language entry requirement by undertaking ONE of the following options:
- taking the University’s English Test, or
- submitting a valid academic IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 6.0, or a TOEFL certificate with a minimum score of 60.
B. Thanawaya Amma or its equivalent (approved Arab and Azharian and other types of high school certificates)
Applicants must take the University’s English Test, OR be exempted by submitting ONE of the following:
- a valid academic IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 6.0, or
- a valid academic TOEFL certificate with a minimum score of 60.
