Road to the COP27

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and H.E. Professor Mahmoud Mohieldin, the COP27 High-Level Climate Action Champion, the British University in Egypt and the UNDP concluded the International COP27 Simulation Model Mock Conference on the18th of October 2022, for three days.

This Simulation Model Mock Conference came as part of The British University in Egypt’s awareness and education role in the COP27 Conference, which took place in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022; as the University was a member of the High-level taskforce supporting the COP27, chaired by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Ayman Ashour, and involving a number of Egyptian Universities, in addition to members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other entities involved in the COP27.

The Mock Conference witnessed the attendance and participation of prominent keynote speakers, amongst them the University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohamed Loutfi, British Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Ambassador Gareth Bayley and UK Secretary of State for Education, H.E. Ambassador Gillian Keegan as well as Resident Representative, UNDP Mr Alessandro Fracasetti, Dr Abeer Shakweer- UNDP Assistant Resident Representative, and Dr Sarah El-Khishin- Associate Professor of Economics and the Head of the COP27 Simulation Model. The Keynote Closing Address was given by H.E. Professor Mahmoud Mohieldin.  

The British University in Egypt announced COP27 Simulation Model declarations,  at the COP27 Global Youth Statement, as part of the University participation, on Thursday 10th November 2022, in the activities of the “Science and Youth Day” at COP27, held in Sharm El-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November, under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where the University participated in 10 sessions and organized two sessions in cooperation with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the Green Zone and the Blue Zone, and had 250 students participating and helping in the organaisation of COP27, where around 130 students from 24 countries worldwide participated in the Model.
