Important Admission Information
Admission to the BUE is competitive, and priority is given to early applicants. The minimum overall admission score is determined annually by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education.
Applicants to the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering must satisfy the Mathematics Section requirements applicable to their secondary school certificate.
Certificate-specific Requirements
Required section
- Mathematics Section.
- Only the BSc in Biochemical Engineering accepts applicants from both sections
Minimum overall score
- Determined annually by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education.
Required documents
- Original Egyptian Thanaweya Amma certificate or an authenticated Statement of Results.
- Original birth certificate.
Required subjects
A minimum of eight different approved O-Level subjects:
- English
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Four other approved subjects
In addition:
- AS/ASL Mathematics is required.
Minimum grades
- O-Level subjects: C or Grade 4.
- AS/ASL Mathematics: D.
- Applicants with 11 years of schooling may apply if all entry requirements are satisfied.
Approved optional subjects listed by BUE
Accounting, Business Studies, Computer Studies, Information and Computer Technology, Economics, French, German, Spanish, Geography, Global Studies, History, Logic/Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Social Studies, Statistics and US Government.
Required documents
- Original IGCSE/GCSE statements of results or certificates authenticated by the British Council in Egypt using the True Document/Golden Stamp and by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- For qualifications completed in Egypt, documents must also be stamped by the General Department of Examinations.
- Authenticated academic sequence covering 11 or 12 years of schooling.
- Documents issued abroad must also be authenticated by the relevant authorities and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Original birth certificate.
Applicants must present:
- EST1, ACT1 or SAT1.
- EST2 or ACT2.
- Eight different subjects, with at least one credit hour for each.
EST1, ACT1, SAT1 must include:
- English
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Four other approved subjects
ACT2 or EST2 must include:
- Mathematics; and
- One of Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
Minimum test scores
- SAT1 or EST1: 800.
- ACT1: 14.
- EST2: 900.
Required documents
- ACT1 or EST1 stamped by the relevant department at the Egyptian Ministry of Education.
- SAT1 stamped by AMIDEAST Cairo and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- High school transcript stamped by the General Department of Examinations.
- For certificates issued abroad, authentication by the relevant authorities and Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- AMIDEAST school accreditation letter for high schools outside Egypt, authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Academic sequence covering 12 years of schooling.
- Statement from the Private Education Department for applicants educated in Egypt.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Birth certificate.
Required subjects
Nine different subjects, each carrying at least one credit hour:
- English
- Mathematics
- Advanced Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Four other approved subjects
Additional condition
- A maximum of three subjects may be taken from Grade 11.
- The remaining subjects must be completed in Grade 12.

- High school transcript stamped by the General Department of Examinations.
- For certificates issued abroad, authentication by the relevant authorities and Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Authenticated academic sequence covering 12 years of schooling.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Birth certificate..
Required subjects
Seven different subjects, including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Three other approved subjects
Mathematics must be completed as a basic or mandatory subject.
Minimum score
- Minimum of 10 points.
Required documents
- High school transcript stamped by the General Department of Examinations, the French Embassy in Egypt and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- For certificates issued abroad, authentication by the relevant authorities and Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Academic sequence covering 12 years of schooling or the French Brevet.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Birth certificate.
Required subjects
Seven different subjects, including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Three other approved subjects
Minimum grade
- Minimum of one point in each subject.
- If one compulsory Abitur subject is missing, it may be considered from Grade 10.
Required documents
- Abitur transcript stamped by the General Department of Examinations, the German Embassy in Egypt and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- For certificates issued abroad, authentication by the relevant authorities and Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Authenticated academic sequence covering 12 years of schooling.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Birth certificate.
Required subjects
- Six different subjects, including English.
- Three subjects at Higher Level.
- Three subjects at Standard Level.
- Mathematics and Physics must be taken at Higher Level.
Additional requirements
- Completion of the Extended Essay.
- Completion of Theory of Knowledge.
- Minimum total score of 24 points.
Required documents
- Original IB transcript and diploma, authenticated by the relevant authority in Geneva, the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian Embassy in Switzerland.
- Official academic sequence covering 12 consecutive years of education, authenticated by the relevant authorities.
- Proof of passing Arabic and Religion examinations for Egyptian and Arab applicants.
- Birth certificate.
Arab and Azharian High School Certificates
Required section
- Science Section.
- Applicants must hold the approved national high school certificate of the relevant country.
Minimum overall score
- Determined annually in accordance with the applicable admission requirements.
Required documents
For Arab certificates:
- Original high school certificate stamped by the Ministry of Education of the issuing country.
- Authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country.
- Verification by the Egyptian Embassy in that country.
For Azharian certificates:
- Original Azharian Thanaweya certificate or an authenticated Statement of Results.
For both:
- Birth certificate.
Nile International Certificate
Applicants must satisfy one of the following routes.
Applicants must also confirm the required authentication with the Admissions Office.
Route A
- Seven Level 1 subjects, including English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Minimum Grade E in each Level 1 subject.
- Two Level 2 subjects:
- Mathematics as the primary subject; and
- One of Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
- Minimum Grade E in each Level 2 subject.
Route B
- Mathematics at Level 3 with a minimum Grade E.
Other high school certificates
Applicants holding another certificate should contact the BUE Admissions Office for an individual eligibility and document assessment.

International Applicants
This is only for Non-Egyptian students who wish to study at the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering at The British University in Egypt.
