Faculty of Communication and Mass Media Hosts Choose your Major
The Faculty of Communication and Mass Media, in collaboration with the Student Hub at the British University in Egypt, recently hosted an event to help Year One students explore their major options. With students needing to choose their major by the end of the semester, this event provided valuable insights and guidance.
The event kicked off with presentations by Teaching Assistants (TAs) representing each of the four exciting majors offered by FCMM. Ms. Lobna Morsi from Integrated Marketing Communications, Ms. Sherry Emad from Film and Media Studies, and Ms. Hala Elmahdi from Radio and Television each provided valuable insights into their respective fields. The TAs delved into the specific modules taught within each major, shared their personal experiences to illustrate the learning environment, and even outlined the promising career prospects that await graduates.
However, the event went beyond faculty perspectives. Three successful FCMM alumni, Ms. Tebyan Elfateh, Ms. Julia Hany, and Ms. Mariam Yasser, shared their own journeys at the university and how their studies at The British University in Egypt shaped their current careers. Hearing firsthand accounts from these accomplished professionals provided invaluable advice for the future generation of communicators, allowing students to envision their own paths in the field.
Dr. Sherin Moody, Lecturer and Community Services Coordinator at FCMM, further emphasized the university's commitment to student success. Reassuring the students, Dr. Moody stated, "Whatever major you choose, the faculty will help you succeed." This message of unwavering support resonated with the audience.
The Student Hub also played a key role by introducing an interactive tool called "PathwayU" designed to assist students in their exploration of potential majors. Representatives from the Hub were readily available to guide attendees through the tool and answer any questions. Following the event, students received an email containing a link to PathwayU. Upon completing the survey within the tool, they will receive personalized recommendations for suitable majors based on their interests and aptitudes. Additionally, a dedicated member from the Student Hub will reach out to each student to ensure a positive experience and answer any further questions they may have.
This collaborative event provided Year One students with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse majors offered by FCMM, the exciting career prospects that await them after graduation, and the robust support systems in place to guide them throughout their academic journey. With valuable insights from both faculty and alumni, students are now better equipped to make informed decisions about their academic paths and confidently choose the major that best aligns with their aspirations.
