Spreading Innovation Culture:

From concept development and prototyping to patenting and intellectual property rights, we are your trusted partner, helping you navigate the complexities of the innovation landscape.

The Technology, Innovation, and Commercialisation Office is a cooperation project between The British University in Egypt and the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology in 2016. The project is in its 2nd round, 2020-2023.

TICO’s Vision:

TICO's Vision is to close the innovation cycle to bridge the gap between research, industrial and societal needs. It also aims to support innovation & technology in the areas that would develop the business of the existing firms and establish strong and stable projects.

TICO’s Mission:

We are committed to fostering an innovation-driven culture, supporting novel inventions and technologies, and accelerating the process of commercialisation through establishing a sustainable mechanism for the development of science and technology solutions that are research-based, innovative and sustainable, and to maximise their economic and social impact.

TICO SUB-OFFICES

- TTO (technology transfer officer)

Encourage technological and knowledge exchange between the academic community and business through a variety of events focused on encouraging and supporting local industries' technical and research requirements to advance their technological capabilities.

- TISC (technology Innovation support centre)

Supports the creation of patents and intellectual property, and provides a pathway to those interested in submitting patents for their new research.

- GICO (Grants and International Collaboration Office)

Is responsible for finding and providing opportunities for national and international technical and financial support for research projects.

TICO Services:

Intellectual Property Management

Provide technical support on how to protect your rights. The primary objective of IP management strategies is appropriation. Aside from this goal, good IP management can assist innovative SMEs in achieving a variety of other goals, such as securing investment, identifying and attracting potential partners or buyers, gaining value from collaborations, and managing litigation risks. The distinctions between the professions and practices of "Management" and "Law" are debated. Intellectual property can be used by businesses in a variety of ways. Historically, they used it to protect their own products. They may, however, directly extract value from their intellectual property portfolio.

Patents

- Prior Art Search

Prior Art Search concerns the previous inventions or technologies that have been applied for, regarding the technology specified by the person informed to the TISC Office

- Trending Technologies

Trending technologies tackles finding the latest technologies or latest inventions that have been applied for.

- Patent Drafting is the process of writing the patent application including detailed description and claims.

-  Patent Filling is the procedure of submitting a patent application after drafting the patent to protect against the abuse of one's innovation.

 - Patent Follow-up is the procedure for responding to the examiners at the Egyptian Patent Office who are reviewing the patent application to grant it.

Applying for Grants

Finding and providing opportunities for technical and financial support for research projects. Including monitoring and evaluation design, technical assistance, funding allocation, and defining the key elements of the ToC (terms and conditions), In addition, help with application decisions and reading the terms of reference.

Innovation Management (Market pull/ Technology push)

This service aids industries and academics by supplying them with tailored advice that will assist them in making decisions, through the product journey from research to market. It also covers developing an existing product by inducing either modular or architectural innovation and fitting an existing product in a new market. This includes identifying market needs, conceptualising the product, building the product roadmap, launching the product, and collecting feedback. (Customer-centric innovation)

Commercialisation

Turning innovative ideas into successful businesses requires expertise and strategic guidance. At TICO, we leverage our extensive network of industry partners and investors to facilitate the commercialisation process, The office utilises the development and assuring of the new entrance to the market of products and services. Moreover, any form of exploitation of IP, including assignment of the IP, IP valuation, exclusive or non-exclusive licensing, formation of a start-up company, internal exploitation within the University or commercialisation via a spin-off company; the use of patent management companies or government agencies, non-profit use or joint ventures or any for-profit and not-for-profit use that is or may be adapted for providing any benefit.

Capacity Building

The office adopts the process of enhancing the knowledge, talents, procedures, and resources that enable entrepreneurs to endure, adapt, and prosper in a world that is undergoing rapid change to pave its way to the right methodology for business launching.
