Run for the Climate

The British University in Egypt was the scene of an unprecedented, packed-out crowd in the Run for the Climate marathon, in partnership with Cairo Runners and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Minister of Youth and Sports, H.E. Professor Ashraf Sobhy was there for the opening shot that got the run off to a flying start. He was joined by Chair of the Board of Trustees of the BUE, Ms. Farida Khamis, President and Vice-Chancellor of the BUE, Professor Mohamed Loutfi, Resident Representative to Egypt of the UNDP, Mr. Alessandro Fracassetti and Head of the Shorouk City Council, Eng. Abdelatif Beshara and many other public and athletic personalities. Runners, who ranged from four years of age to over seventy, all energetically took part in the 5KM and 10KM runs and the 2KM Family run/walk.

Others were able to participate in some of the fantastic events on campus like the Green Bazaar, Art for Climate, Kids for Climate and Sustainable Fashion workshops! Athletes also worked up a sweat with a Spinning for Climate session. Partners for the Run included the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the British and Japanese Embassies.
