Clinical Biochemistry Students Gain Practical Insight at Tumor Biomarker Unit
Year 3 Clinical Biochemistry students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at The British University in Egypt recently participated in an intensive hands-on training programme at the Tumour Biomarker Unit, Faculty of Pharmacy, Al-Azhar University. Held from 2nd to 5th February 2025, this four-day training enabled six students to gain practical experience with cutting-edge equipment and technologies used in clinical biochemistry analytical laboratories.
The training provided an invaluable opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world laboratory setting. They engaged in various techniques related to tumour biomarker analysis, enhancing their understanding of how these tests contribute to disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment decisions. By working directly with advanced instruments and conducting experiments under expert supervision, they developed a deeper appreciation for the role of biochemistry in clinical research and patient care.
Beyond technical skills, the programme also helped students build confidence in their laboratory abilities, improve their communication skills, and strengthen their capacity to work collaboratively in professional environments. These soft skills are essential for future pharmacists and clinical biochemists as they navigate their careers in healthcare and research.
It is worth mentioning that Dr Abdullah Gibriel accompanied the students, offering guidance and support as they embarked on this learning experience. His presence provided an additional layer of mentorship, ensuring that students maximised their exposure to the advanced laboratory techniques being demonstrated.
