 About:                                                                                 

The Faculty of Communication and Mass Media (FCMM) at The British University in Egypt (BUE) aims to promote cultural, economic, social and technological development through preparing a generation of fully equipped communication and media graduates.  FCMM offers a four-year full-time programme designed to render students with academic theoretical knowledge and how to apply it within the creative practice in the communication and mass media industry. The faculty gives its students the choice of opting 1 of 4 specialisations, and they are: Journalism and New Media, Radio and Television, Film and Media Studies, and Integrated Marketing Communications. FCMM bestows its students with dual degrees, being validated by the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities and London South Bank University (LSBU).

With its state-of-the-art programmes, FCMM is considered the initial faculty in Egypt that offers comprehensive film and media studies in one programme. Some of them incorporate film, broadcasting, journalism, public relations and new media modules from miscellaneous sub-disciplines such as media and society, media and politics, film and media analysis, multimedia, and communication for development. Furthermore, the faculty has and continues to recruit experts in the field, local and international staff that are responsible for the teaching process. In this likely manner, FCMM equips its graduates to be competent in working within the competitive job market of not only national but also regional and international media.

Notably, the faculty inaugurated its Masters of Science (MSc.) programme during the academic year of 2020-2021. Having a dual degree from the UK and Egypt, the programme is exclusively specialised in Digital Media. The postgraduate programme transpires on exploring the paramount transformations of the 21st century digital media landscape. The MSc. in Digital Media is considered the first interdisciplinary programme in Egypt that incorporates both Communication & Mass Media modules, and Informatics & Computer Science modules. Students are exposed to a number of sub-disciplinary modules each semester, and thus gaining the prerequisite knowledge and competence.

Its vision centres on continuous innovation and creativity in teaching and learning, professional development, research, and entrepreneurship in collaboration with British partners and on fostering engagement and cooperation with local, regional, and international communities.

The Faculty of Communication and Media at the British University in Egypt is committed to providing a stimulating learning environment that produces distinguished graduates equipped with the academic and professional skills needed to keep pace with technological advancements in the media industry. Graduates earn a dual Egyptian–UK degree, delivered through the highest standards of teaching and e-learning. The faculty is also dedicated to advancing scientific research and engaging in community and training activities with a wide range of local and international organisations, in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its commitment to sustainable development.

Strategic Goals:

- Developing and enhancing the educational environment and academic support to align with the requirements of the learning process across the Faculty’s disciplines, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of graduates in the labour market.

- Maintaining the adequacy and efficiency of the teaching staff, the supporting staff, and the administrative staff, and consolidating the principles of academic ethics and social responsibility.

- Developing educational programmes in accordance with national and British academic reference standards to achieve scientific and professional skills to keep pace with modern communication and media requirements and national priorities.

- Applying an advanced teaching and learning strategy that achieves the objectives of educational programs and acquires targeted learning skills and practical skills.

- Obtaining accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).

- Expanding the provision of research activities and producing multidisciplinary scientific research with a national and global impact in the communication and media industry to achieve national priorities.

- Developing research partnerships through funded projects, and organising or participating in scientific conferences and meetings, all contribute to enhancing the Faculty’s and University’s rankings.

- Offering diverse postgraduate programmes in accordance with labor market needs.

- Providing periodic community activities that meet the needs of society and contribute to its advancement and the application of sustainable development.

- Expanding partnerships to align programmes, activities, and educational outcomes with labour market demands and community needs.
