Senior Specialist Librarian

Job Purpose

The Circulation and Enquiries Senior Specialist will be responsible for undertaking activities of a professional nature which allow users to get responses to enquiries, seek to supply documents, create accounts, and lending books, contact users for overdue materials and instruct as required.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:

1. Responding to library users regarding general enquiries’ requests and suggestions.

2. Overseeing the running of appropriate floors of the library

3. Contribute to providing research services including instructing sessions for researchers and providing one-to-one consultations.

4. Administering/ assisting in handling and responding to the iThenticate/ Turnitin users’ requests as required.

5. Seeking and requesting documents which are not available in the Library holdings upon users’ requests.

6. Providing sessions to the academics and students as required.

7. Lending and receiving materials from users through the Library System.

8. Contacting users for overdue materials.

9. Maintaining statistics and contributing to creating accurate and timely reports and documentation.

10. Creating, reviewing and updating guides for both academic staff and students.

11. Participating in marketing library services and resources.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications: A degree in Librarianship and/or Information Science or in another subject with a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship and/or Information Science.

Experience: From 5 - 7 years in the library and information science profession.

Technical Skills: Library & Information science, critical thinking, customer services, teaching, ICT / technological skills, presentation skills and electronic resources management. - Basic computer literacy, including Word and Excel. - Excellent English and Arabic verbal and written communication skills. - A commitment to excellence in providing a service. - Ability to promote and market services and resources. - Ability to present the library resources and facilities in a proper manner. - Enthusiasm and commitment to career development and broadening professional skills and knowledge. - Flexibility and resourcefulness in meeting and dealing with new professional challenges. - Ability to work successfully in a multicultural environment.
