Senior Network Administrator - IT Department
Job Purpose
The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for the design, administration, maintain the operation, network security, and continuous improvement of the University's network, data center and infrastructure.
The position ensures the availability, performance, scalability, resilience, and security of critical IT infrastructure and provides technical direction to network and infrastructure support teams.
The role also leads infrastructure projects, coordinates with internal stakeholders and technology vendors, and contributes to the development and implementation of strategic IT infrastructure and cybersecurity solutions.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the administration, operation, and continuous improvement of the University's network, data center, cloud, virtualization, and infrastructure environments, ensuring high availability, reliability, performance, security, and business continuity.
- Lead the design, implementation, upgrade, migration, and optimization of network and data center infrastructure in alignment with University requirements, IT architecture standards, and technology roadmaps.
- Manage and maintain network, telecommunications, virtualization, and data center infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, Internet connectivity, wireless, firewalls, IP telephony, VMware, Nutanix, and related infrastructure services.
- Manage infrastructure and network security, including firewalls, VPNs, remote access, access controls, network segmentation, security policies, and other security solutions.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, capacity, and health, proactively identifying and resolving issues and implementing performance, capacity, and reliability improvements.
- Develop, maintain, and implement disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, including DR infrastructure, replication, cloud connectivity, recovery procedures, and service continuity for critical systems.
- Lead infrastructure projects and technical implementations, including new solutions, upgrades, migrations, and integrations, ensuring compliance with approved designs, timelines, quality standards, and change management procedures.
- Human Resources Office BUE-HR-OD-101• Develop and maintain infrastructure architecture, technical documentation, standards, and procedures, including HLDs, LLDs, network diagrams, configurations, operational procedures, and DR documentation.
- • Evaluate and implement new technologies and manage technology partners, including vendors and service providers, ensuring technical compatibility, effective service delivery, support, licensing, and resolution of technical issues.
- Ensure infrastructure governance, compliance, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement, including root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, capacity planning, and contribution to infrastructure technology roadmaps.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the line manager.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,
- Information Technology, Computer
- Engineering, Telecommunications
- Engineering, or any other related field.
Experience
- 5–7 years of experience in network administration, network engineering, IT infrastructure, or data center operations.
- Experience with dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and/or EIGRP.
- Advanced knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, VLAN, routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, and network segmentation.
- Experience with firewall platforms such as Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with infrastructure capacity planning, performance monitoring, lifecycle management, and infrastructure optimization.
- Experience with storage systems,
- SAN/NAS, storage networking, capacity
- Human Resources Office BUE-HR-OD-101management, and performance optimization.
- Experience supporting secure remote access solutions, including VPN,
- Remote Desktop Services/Terminal
- Services, and related technologies.
- Experience with network and infrastructure monitoring, alerting, performance management, and capacity monitoring tools.
- Experience with centralized monitoring and management platforms is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of cloud networking, connectivity, identity, security, and availability concepts.
- Strong understanding of Internet connectivity, leased lines, PRI circuits, voice gateways, and bandwidth management.
- Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPN technologies, access control, network segmentation, security policies,
- IDS/IPS, secure remote access, and network security monitoring.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, security hardening, vulnerability management, and infrastructure security best practices.
- Knowledge of active and passive network infrastructure, structured cabling, rack and equipment deployment, redundancy, high availability, and data center standards.
- Knowledge of virtual networking, virtual switches, clusters, high availability, resource management, and virtual machine lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of backup and restore technologies, backup scheduling, retention policies, automated backup processes, and recovery testing.
- Familiarity with cloud-based backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure services.
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments, particularly Microsoft
- Azure or equivalent platforms.
- Human Resources Office BUE-HR-OD-101• Ability to analyze system logs, network traffic, performance metrics, and infrastructure alerts to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Working knowledge of VoIP/IP Telephony, SIP, PRI, voice gateways, and related network infrastructure.
- Ability to troubleshoot network-related voice and communication issues.
- Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.
- Ability to coordinate with internal teams, vendors, consultants, and service providers.
