The British University in Egypt hosts Azerbaijani Ambassador to Foster Collaboration Ahead of COP29

The British University in Egypt was honoured to host His Excellency Ambassador Elkhan Polukhov, Ambassador of Azerbaijian to Egypt, alongside Embassy Counsellor Mr. Zakir Abdullayev, in a bid to explore avenues of mutual collaboration prior to the upcoming COP29 conference set to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Our distinguished guests were warmly received by H.E. Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Special Advisor to the University President for Foreign Affairs and Head of the Centre for Egypt and Middle Eastern Studies and met with our University President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohamed Loutfi, UNDP Egypt Resident Representative, Mr. Alessandro Fracassetti, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Vice President for Research and Enterprise, Professor Yehia Bahei-El-Din, Director of Strategy Development and Head of The COP Simulation Model, Dr. Sarah El Khishin, Strategic Transformation Officer, Dr. Amr Seda, UNDP Egypt Policy and Partnerships Programme Team Leader, Ms. Reham Youssef, and UNDP Egypt Assistant Resident Representative and Climate Change Team Leader, Mr. Mohamed Bayoumi.

The visit proved to be not only a diplomatic exchange but also an enriching opportunity for student involvement. Students had the privilege to share their insights gleaned from previous participation in the COP Simulation Model, which has garnered acclaim for the University at both COP27Simulation and COP28Simulation. Ambassador Polukhov further captivated Political Science students with an insightful lecture, leaving an indelible mark on their academic journey.


H.E Ambassador Elkhan Polukhov and Counsellor Mr. Zakir Abdullayev also had a tour of the faculties of Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, and Political Science, Nursing, and Dentistry, where they observed our advanced facilities.

The visit underscored the commitment of both institutions to foster collaboration in tackling pressing global challenges, particularly in the realm of climate action. It served as a transformative experience, embodying the spirit of international cooperation and academic excellence.
