Lord Mayor Yasmine Dar Plants Seeds of Collaboration at The British University in Egypt

In a remarkable display of international collaboration, Lord Mayor Yasmine Dar of the City of Manchester graced The British University in Egypt with her presence where she was welcomed by our President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohamed Loutfi. Her visit underscored the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual academic understanding and progress. Among those present were Mr Majid Dar, Consort to the Lord Mayor of Manchester, accompanied by Dr Abdullah  Al-Naeem, Chief Executive Officer at EDRAK GLOBAL Charters Accounting, alongside Professor Rachelle Viader Knowles, Head of International for the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Manchester Metropolitan University.

A focal point of her visit was the Faculty of Art and Design, a beacon of creativity and innovation within our University's academic landscape. Here, Lord Mayor Dar inaugurated a state-of-the-art Mac Lab, a testament to her unwavering support for nurturing artistic talent and technological proficiency among students.

Lord Mayor Dar's visit was not restricted to formalities and inaugurations. It was a heartfelt reunion with students she had previously encountered in Manchester, where the Faculty of Art and Design at The British University in Egypt maintains an academic partnership with the prestigious Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). Our students met Lord Mayor Dar and her daughter, Amina Dar, during their Summer School Internship Programme last year, where they immersed themselves in the vibrant art and design scene of the United Kingdom.

Councillor Dar, who studied Art and Design at Abraham Moss College herself, has shared anecdotes about her artistic journey and encouraged students to embrace their unique artistic talents, reminding them that art has the power to transcend boundaries and foster understanding.

In a symbolic gesture of enduring friendship and commitment to sustainability, Lord Mayor Dar participated in a tree-planting ceremony on campus. As a living testament to her visit, the sapling thrives under the Egyptian sun, ensuring that her name is recorded in the university's history for generations to come. Her visit not only inspired but also reaffirmed the importance of fostering connections across borders for the betterment of future generations.
