Lecturer or Associate Professor- Civil law- Faculty of Law

Job Purpose

The Lecturer/Associate Professor in Civil Law is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, conducting impactful research, and contributing to the academic leadership and development of innovative programs in civil law. This role includes coordinating the preparation, delivery, review, and enhancement of modules while undertaking teaching duties assigned by the Dean, Head of Department, or Programme Director. The position also involves producing learning materials and delivering content across a range of modules within the civil law field.

 

Job Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate civil law programs.

- Design and develop innovative curriculum content reflecting current legal practices, civil law trends, and recent legislative changes.

- Utilize advanced teaching methodologies, including digital platforms and case-based learning, to foster critical thinking and legal analysis.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with legal professionals, law firms, and relevant organizations to enhance program relevance and improve graduate employability.

- Organize and participate in law-related events, workshops, and partnerships, including internships and live projects.

- Promote the department’s work through public engagement, legal forums, and media collaborations.

- Lead and contribute to high-impact legal research, case studies, or practice-based work with national and international recognition.

- Publish research outputs in academic journals, legal platforms, and at legal conferences or seminars.

- Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute/assist to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.

- Ensure that the Module Specifications and delivery are consistent with the objectives and procedures of the Programme, University regulations, Egyptian academic standards and quality assurance practices in learning and teaching.

- Update and actively maintain the System for the module to meet at least the minimum requirements specified by the University.

- Provide information to the relevant administrative offices by the given deadlines to facilitate timetabling, and to ensure that the list of registered students is as accurate as possible prior to the start of teaching to ensure that the teaching process begins promptly.

- Ensure that new staff receives an induction to the module to ensure that they understand the learning, teaching, attendance policy and assessment strategy including marking practice.

- Responsible for the secure printing of examination papers in sufficient quantities and secure submission to the Exam Officer.

- Supervise student projects and the academic elements progress, achievement and attendance.

- Ensure that the TA’s and administrative staff attend punctually for teaching commitments and provide suitable handouts or supporting materials to assist the students’ learning, including on e-learning.

- Mark work and exams promptly and accurately with reference to departmental marking criteria.

- Set assessments and formal examinations in accordance with the relevant regulations and by the published deadline.

- Ensure marks are entered on the Student Record System and are accurate and error-free.

- Examination supervision duties.

- Answer student's enquires either by e-mail or physically during office hours, ensuring proper understanding of the course material.

- Undertake various duties as assigned by Dean/Head of Department, Programme Director.

Educational Qualifications

Desired:

- A PhD in Civil Law or a related field, with significant teaching, research, and professional legal experience.

Experience:

- 7+ Years.

- A track record of regular publications in high impact research journals.

Technical Skills

- Strong understanding of current legal trends, civil law practices, and technological advancements in legal education.

- Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education or a strong portfolio of industry practice in civil law.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

- Ability to integrate professional legal practice into teaching and curriculum development.
