Inauguration of Cairo President’s Office for the Federation of Africa University Sports

The British University in Egypt has officially inaugurated the Cairo President’s Office of the Federation of Africa University Sports on its campus, marking a significant step in strengthening collaboration between the university and the continental sports body. This initiative aims to enhance the development of university sports across Africa while fostering cultural and academic exchange.

The inauguration ceremony brought together distinguished figures from the world of university sports and academia. Among the notable attendees were Mr Leons Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation; Professor Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports and President of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Mr Matthias Remund, Secretary General of the International University Sports Federation; Mr Stefan Bergh, Chair of the Continental University Sports Division; Mr Imad Bounouch, Adviser for Africa & the Middle East at the International University Sports Federation; Mr Tarmo Jaakson, Development and National University Sports Federations Relations Manager at the International University Sports Federation; Mr Alim Rachid Maluf Neto, Representative of International University Sports Federation America, Argentina; Mr Marko Zunic, Executive Committee Member of the International University Sports Federation from Croatia; Ms Muzuva Tsitsi, First Vice President of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Mr Ahshad Tariq, Second Vice President of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Ms Peninnah Aligawesa Kabenge, Secretary General of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Mr Aupal Emmanuel, Student Representative of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Ms Nomsa Mahlangu, Immediate Past President of the Federation of Africa University Sports; Ms Farida Khamis, Chair of The British University in Egypt’s Board of Trustees; and Professor Mohamed Loutfi, President and Vice-Chancellor of The British University in Egypt.

During the event, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Professor Ashraf Sobhy, also unveiled the Healthy Campus initiative, a nationwide programme aimed at improving the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff across universities. The initiative will be gradually implemented, encouraging Egyptian institutions to align their health policies with national objectives. By focusing on physical activity, mental well-being, and health awareness, the Healthy Campus initiative provides a structured framework for universities to cultivate a healthier environment. It sets a foundation for campuses working towards holistic wellness, ensuring that educational institutions play a proactive role in enhancing the quality of life for their communities.

With the establishment of this office, The British University in Egypt will play a pivotal role in supporting the Federation of Africa University Sports’ mission to promote university sports across Africa. The office will serve as a hub for regional collaboration, offering a space for dialogue, strategic planning, and the coordination of key sports initiatives.

The presence of the Federation of Africa University Sports leadership within The British University in Egypt’s campus further aligns with the university’s vision of international engagement and community development. By hosting this office, our University reinforces its commitment to advancing education, sports, and cultural initiatives that benefit students, faculty, and the broader African university network.
