Assistant Librarian
Job Purpose
The Assistant/ Senior Assistant Librarian is responsible for undertaking activities of a professional nature which allows users to get responses to enquiries, create accounts, lend books, contact users for overdue materials and maintain usage statistics.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:
1. Maintain the circulation of library materials by lending and receiving items through the library system.
2. Follow up with users who have overdue items.
3. Provide customer service to library users by replying to their enquiries.
4. Maintain accurate statistics and generate reports to track usage and trends.
5. Assist in marketing the library activities.
6. Create and update a subject guide for Circulation.
7. Deliver orientation to users.
8. Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Library Director to support the overall operations of the library.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- A degree in Librarianship and/or Information Science or in another subject with a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship and/or Information Science.
Experience
- From 0 - 4 years in library and information science profession.
Technical Skills
- Critical thinking, customer services, ICT / technological skills, presentation skills and electronic resources management.
Competencies
- A very good knowledge of reading, writing and speaking English.
- Good computer literacy, including Word, Excel and Power Point.
- A commitment to excellence in providing services.
- Ability to present the library resources and facilities in a proper manner.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to career development and broadening professional skills and knowledge.
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in meeting and dealing with challenges.
