Assistant Lecturer– Political Science
Job Purpose
The purpose of Assistant Lecturer is to effectively and efficiently undertake a range of duties associated with the contribution to achieve the Faculty/Department strategic objectives and in accordance with relevant University policies and procedures. They are also expected to pursue their graduate studies. Integrity and Accountability. The Assistant Lecturer will be an active member of the Module Teaching Team in terms of module planning, assessment design and lecture delivery.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain the confidentiality of the assessment process.
- Collect and grade the components of the course, such as but not limited to assignments, quizzes, and reports under the supervision of the module leader with reference to model answer and grading criteria.
- Check that examiners have marked all questions on unseen examination scripts and totaled the marks correctly.
- Attend lectures given by the module leader whom they are assisting.
- Coordinate with the Lab assistant/technician to order or obtain materials needed for classes.
- Teach & supervise student’s attendance on a regularly monitored basis during tutorials, practical laboratory sessions.
- Prepare teaching materials, for practical sessions (lab manuals, power-point presentations) and different types of academic materials (photocopying and distributing).
- Assist students with course material, answer students enquires either e-mail or physical during office hours, ensuring proper understanding of the course material.
- Provide sufficient feedback to module leader for such as but not limited to delivery and grading.
- Maintain guidance and feedback about teaching performance from supervisor/module leaders.
- Follow and complete their graduate studies within the time limits set by the relevant Laws and Regulations.
- Be familiar with the use of e-learning.
- Be enrolled in a research program according to the department research plans.
- Undertake various duties as assigned by HoD.
- Complete graduate studies within the time limits set by the relevant Laws and Regulations
Invigilate examinations.
- The Assistant lecturer is additionally responsible to design lecture content especially for the topics which will be covered by the Teaching Assistants/Assistant Lecturer and agreeing with the Module Leader on how these topics will be incorporated in student assessment instruments.
- The Assistant lecturer is additionally responsible to align and agree with the Module Leader on the most appropriate delivery mode for the concerned topics.
- The Assistant lecturer is additionally responsible to support the Module Leader and the Teaching Assistants in retaining full responsibility for SRS records, review files and the final module report.
- The Assistant lecturer is additionally responsible to agree with the Module Leader on question design for the concerned topics and which assessment instrument(s) are the most appropriate for them. In addition, to exam grading.
- The Assistant lecturer is additionally responsible to review that marks entered the SRS are identical to those of the original coursework and the unseen examination scripts.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
- A master’s degree (Assistant Lecturer); a in relevant specialization.
- At least a standing of “Very Good” in undergraduate degree.
Experience
- 5+ years for Assistant Lecturer.

- Professional English reading, writing & speaking skills.
- Microsoft Office applications.
- Internet Tools and various browsers.
