This document contains the regulations and procedure to follow for recognition of BUE Academic Staff, Teaching Assistants and Graduating Students for their research achievements through monetary rewards. This recognition has been approved by the University Board to energize the research culture at BUE and incentivize senior and junior academic staff, and students to excel in research and innovation, publish in international journals, and compete for external funding. The following details general rules and award types and their regulations.
General Rules
- Six Research Awards are offered to full time Academic Staff, Teaching Assistants and Graduating Students of an undergraduate programme.
- Qualified BUE staff can apply for a single research award per application cycle.
- Research output which receives a BUE research award will be excluded from future applications for awards.
- Scopus database is used in benchmarking research output submitted for an award in Science and Engineering.
- Scopus and/or Clarivate Analytics is used in benchmarking research output submitted for an award in Social Science.
- All papers considered for an award and published while the applicant is employed at BUE must show BUE affiliation.

All papers considered for an award must have been uploaded to the BUE Scholar repository (https://buescholar.bue.edu.eg/) at time of application.

For papers with multiple co-authors, the following will apply:a. In principle, papers accepted for submission to an award must have no more than five co-authors, otherwise it will be subject to the regulation in 7b.b. Papers with more than five co-authors may be considered for an award if it is a result of research work under a formal collaboration and/or agreement involving large research teams. In this case, it will be given a full credit or partial credit as follows:i. Papers co-authored by 6 to 12 are given half credit (two papers of this kind are considered as one full paper).ii. Papers co-authored by more than 12 are given quarter of a credit (four papers of this kind are considered as one full paper), regardless of the number of co-authors.

Academic honesty will be examined for the work presented for all research awards.
