The Faculty of Nursing at the British University in Egypt hosted a session about raising awareness related to Coronavirus methods of transmission in different places. The Seminar was held at the BUE auditorium on Sunday 8th of March, 2020. The topic was prepared by the Faculty of Nursing team in collaboration with a Professor of Epidemiology, in which Professor Safaa presented the material.
The Seminar was attended by, Professor Ahmed Hamad the BUE President, Dr. Safaa Hashem Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at the BUE, Professor Shadia Fahim, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Mr. Hassan Ammar the University Secretary-General.
This objective of the seminar was to closely monitor the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which there are no identified cases on campus.
The session started by Professor Safaa defining the Coronaviruses by an acute, mild upper respiratory infection (common cold), and the causes and effects. Besides explaining the precautions, such as personal cleanliness, continuous hand wash, increasing immunity through good nutrition and direct exposure to the sun, which is a great privilege we have in Egypt. She also mentioned the different factors increasing the transmission of the virus, such as the immunity system, the importance and responsibility of individuals to protect themselves, their families, and their surrounding community from spreading the virus.
The presentation was made explicitly through a rich PowerPoint presentation and YouTube videos. The videos were related to the multiplication of the virus, the way of spreading it among people, especially those who are susceptible to it. The widespread of it was stressed in the medical field among doctors, nurses, patients, and administrators.
Finally, Prof. Safaa made it clear that all the precautions that individuals have to take are accessible and affordable by different means.
The Seminar was attended by a large number of students, many staff members, and support staff.
