Dr. Hany Bastawrous

Dr. Hany served in the Electrical Engineering Department at Cairo University, Fayoum Campus as a Teaching Assistant from 1998 to 2002 and as an Assistant Lecturer from 2002 to 2003. During his Ph.D. studies from 2003 to 2006, he developed advanced medical image processing algorithms for early detection of lung cancer in collaboration with Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan. From 2006 to 2010, Dr. Hany was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Applied Science for Electronics and Materials, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan. His postdoctoral work, which was funded by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan, included the design and development of the next generation all-optical networks in collaboration with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) labs in Japan. Later, he worked as a lecturer at the German University in Cairo (GUC), Cairo, Egypt from 2010 to 2013 where he supervised research groups of undergraduate and graduate students in optoelectronics and consumer electronics. Since November 2013, Dr. Hany joined the Australian Institute of Innovative Materials (AIIM), University of Wollongong, Australia as an Associate Research Fellow in the Electric Vehicles research group of ISEM. His current work includes the design and implementation of effective and reliable battery management system for electric vehicles and is supported by AutoCRC, Australia and the Malaysian Automotive Institute. He is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, the British University in Egypt (BUE), Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Hany was awarded scientific recognition in both Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2012 and in Marquis Who’s Who in Science 2009. Also, he received the research excellence award from the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ) in 2005 and “MONBUKAGAKUSHO” Scholarship by the Japanese government in 2003. He has authored/co-authored over 40 contributed/invited papers in international journals and conferences. He is a SENIOR MEMBER of IEEE, IEEE-Consumer Electronics society, and IEEE-Industrial Electronics society.

Education

Dr. Hany Bastawrous received his B.Sc. (distinction with honors) and M.Sc. degrees in 1998 and 2002, respectively, both in Electronics Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering at Ritsumeikan University, Japan in 2006 as a Japanese Government (Monbukagashu) scholar.
