Prof. Sally Khalifa Isaac

Prof. Sally Isaac is an International Relations scholar and a Middle East expert with a particular focus on strategic and security studies in the Mediterranean, the MENA region, and the Horn of Africa. Prof. Isaac has published widely on various aspects of the international relations of the Middle East, with a focus on Euro-Arab relations.

Prof. Isaac has won various international fellowships and international research projects. She has been a Mediterranean-Dialogue Research Fellow at the NATO Defense College (2010); a visiting scholar at the Center for Middle East Politics at the Freie Universitaet Berlin (2013); and a visiting senior research fellow at the Istituto per gli studi di Politica Internazionale ISPI in Milan (2014). She led a research team from Cairo University in the research project “Med-Reset”, an EU-Horizon 2020 project (2016-2018).

Her publications tackle mainly Euro-Arab relations, US-Egyptian Relations, NATO-Arab partnerships, Inter-Arab relations, Arab regional organizations, and Egypt's domestic and foreign policies. She has previously collaborated with the USAID; The European Parliament, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, MAEM-MENA Association, the DAAD, Carnegie Europe Center, Istituto Affari Internazionali, and many other national and European institutions and research centers. Besides her teaching experience at Cairo University, she has given lectures in the Free University of Berlin, University of Padua, The American University in Cairo, the Egyptian Command and Staff College, and Egypt’s National Defense Council. She is also a member of some national and international committees, such as the Advisory Board of the United Nations University Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility (UNU-GCM) in Barcelona (2015-2018).

Prof. Isaac is an Egyptian national and speaks Arabic, English and Italian fluently.
