Today, 24th of December 2020, Professor Amany Khodair, Vice Dean for Enterprise and Community Service and Head of the BUE Political Science department, visited El-Sherouk Medical Zone/Administration to deliver our donations, express support to our healthcare staff, and discuss further arrangements and aid.

We would also like to thank Dr. Eman Haroun, Deputy Director of Cairo Health Directorate at The Ministry of Health and Population, and Dr. Hala Aly Kamel, Head of El-Sherouk Medical Zone for their extended help and cooperation.

On December 20^th, the Enterprise & Community Service Team organised the second online awareness session entitled “Sustainability & Future Studies”. The guest speaker was Prof. Ahmed Rashed, Professor of Architectural Engineering at the British University in Egypt and the Founding Director of Farouk El Baz Centre for Sustainability and Future Studies –  FECSFS.

The session was moderated by Prof. Amany Khodair, Vice Dean for Enterprise Community Services and Head of the Political Science Department. During the session, Prof. Rashed introduced the latest efforts of  FECSFS, and the new publication “Civilisation Rights to Build Civilisation” – “حقوق حضارة لبناء حضارة”. He also emphasised upon the necessity of protecting the intellectual property rights of the Egyptian civilisation from theft. Finally, the floor was open for questions and many attendees were engaged in the discussion.

The BAEPS Enterprise Community Service (ECS) has organised an on campus session on Monday 14th of December. The title of the session was “Youth and Creativity: How to Serve Your Society” by the Ministry of Youth. The BAEPS-ECS was honoured to host the guest speaker, Dr. Yousef El Wardany, the assistant of the Egyptian Minister of Youth. Dr. El Wardany presented the different projects of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth to include Egyptian young people in the development process, world peace, and the state political structures. The session was moderated by Prof. Amany Masod, Professor of Political Science at the BUE and Cairo University. During the session Dr. Wardany opened the floor for questions and many students were thoroughly engaged with the discussions.

Dr. Wardany also announced that the Ministry of Youth will host a group of volunteers from BAEPS to work on different initiatives taken by the ministry. Interested Students shall fill in the following form:

On Sunday 13^th of December, the BAEPS Enterprise & Community Service Team, has organised an online session titled “Introducing – BUE’s Science and Innovation Park (SIP)”.  ECS had the honour of hosting Prof. Tamer Mohamed, Director of  BUE’s Science and Innovation Park. The session was moderator Prof. Amany Khodair, Vice Dean for Enterprise Community Services and Head of the Political Science Department.

Prof. Mohamed introduced SIP and its various activities, and explained how the park is providing the right environment to businesses, entrepreneurs, and academics. He also illustrated that the park facilities provide outstanding office spaces with choices that suit startups, medium, and large enterprises, along with providing business support services in different fields.

At the end of the session Prof. Mohamed announced that SIP is open on discount bases for BUE students. On Wednesday, September 18^th, the BUE Political Science Department Community Service Team was honored to host Mr. Hazem El-Malah to deliver an online live session entitled “Child Protection in Egypt”. The session provided a thorough discussion on the initiatives of the ministry of Social Solidarity to curb Child and Adult homelessness. An engaging discussion sparked between Dr. Kamal el-Fekki and and Dr. Aida Magdy, highlighting the role of private universities, such as the British University in Egypt to support the initiative.

Dr. El-Malah started discussing the motivation behind the initiative program that is funded by Tahya Masr. He pointed out the difference between homelessness and begging. In addition he talked about the process of gathering them from the streets to help them get homes. “Children Parliament” was a term used by him to discuss the quality of justice. He advised us all not to give beggars money. It is better to be fed instead. Citizens had better head for their social media accounts or hotline (16439) and report about them”.

The session was attended by BUE students, alumni and guests from various institutions.

The BUE Political Science Department would like to thank our guest speakers, Dr. Raafat Abbas and Dr. Mahmoud Zein Al-Abidin from Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) for the enriching session they delivered today, 5th of July 2020.

The session touched on the services offered by the agency to guide and support young entrepreneurs and university students as well as the different accredited strategies and methods employed to help them develop their business ideas and proposals and market them. Both speakers emphasised on the importance of youth participation and the agency’s keenness to support, encourage and protect business ideas. In light of the discussion, a cooperation protocol has been activated between the department and the agency offering our students training opportunities within the coming period.

The Community Services Committee of the BAEPS faculty has launched its yearly tradition of “Souk El Kheir” inaugurated by the President Ahmad Hamad on Tuesday 17-12-2019 in the Reception Hall of Building G. The clothes were dedicated to the BUE Support workers in a giving spirit envisioning the roots of BUE commitments and embracing attitudes to all levels of workers on campus.

As a part of the Faculty Community Service plan to integrate the female support staff in serving community activities and cancer prevention awareness, the Political Science department, in collaboration with the Business Administration department, held a session on the 1st of December 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3: 00 pm aided by Baheya foundation for treatment of breast cancer in Lecture Hall 1 at the faculty of Mass Communication. The purpose of this session was to raise and spread awareness among the female support staff on the importance of early detection and diagnosis. The invitation was open to all administrative staff, students and whoever wished to attend.

The Research Center for Innovation, Governance and Green Economy CIGGE, in collaboration with the Community Services Committee at the faculty of BAEPS, launched “Paper recycling Campaign”. It was entitled to help the students and staff members to cut down paper waste and to encourage paper recycling. The center motivated artistic and talented students to design a logo and a slogan for the campaign as a part of a pilot study at the level of faculty research and innovation. The sustainability committee at the CIGGE center, headed by Dr. Ola mamdouh together with the team members of the center, worked for the logistics preparation of this event under the supervision of Dr. Zeinab Younis the director of the Center.

The three students, whose logos were chosen as the best by the jury from the Center and the marketing specialization of the faculty of BAEPS, were Nesma179919- Norhan177306- Julia179971.

In celebration of the Holy Prophet Mohammed’s birth anniversary “Al-Mawlid Al-nabawi Al-sharif”, the Political Science department has organised an initiative for the third year in a row to get oriental sweets packages for the workers across the faculty.

The initiative was a striking success thanks to the contributions made by both the Political Science and Business Administration department. The scope of distribution covered the faculty and beyond. With the help of political science teaching assistants, the community service team has been able to successfully distribute forty-two packs across the university.

The event is a preliminary Awareness Campaign titled “Together Against Addiction” as part of the corporate social responsibility activities of the Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science (BAEPS). The event was held on Sunday 27th of October from 2 to 4 PM. This is the first phase of a more comprehensive campaign that will be at the University Level. Our partner of this event is “The Fund of Drugs & Treatment of Addiction”, with its reverent members: Mr. Mahmoud Saleh, the marketing and communication officer at the Fund of Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction & Mr. Essam Youssef, the famous writer. Professor Mona Reda, MD, Prof. Psychiatry Ain Shams University was hosted as a lecturer about Addictive personality and a recovered patient who courageously talk about his own ordeal with drugs and how he was recovered.

The event was attended by few hundreds of our students as well as academic staff. The impact of the event was seen immediately when two additional patients were encouraged and talked publicly about their journey with drugs and the road to recovery.

The event was held at the auditorium on Sunday October 20th from 2 to 4 pm to launch the awareness campaign organized by BAEPS Community Service. The whole university paid tribute to our BUE students who lost their precious life as a result of a car accident. The event was under the auspices and supervision of BUE President and BAEPS Dean, and in collaboration with “Nada Foundation for Road Safety”. The event ended with a “Silent March” in front of the auditorium. In their speeches about their lost colleagues, the students were extremely expressive and brought tears to all our hearts and souls, yet their expressive words raised awareness to their fellow friends of the percentage of catastrophic car accidents that happen daily because of both human and infrastructure errors.

The Community Services committee tried to embrace the agonies and sorrows of the BUE student community promising to envision a plan with the top management to make these awareness sessions recurrent as much as possible and act in collaboration with the student body groups of students to launch campaigns to ensure safety on the roads. Nada foundation promised to assist and contribute to these sessions through a mutual collaboration with all faculties in The British University in Egypt.

As part of the Political Science Department’s environmental awareness plan, in collaboration with the Vice Dean for Community Service, International earth day was celebrated on April 22nd, 2019. The celebration included a photography competition, whereby students were encouraged to capture photos that highlight the importance of environmental concerns or highlight the human impact on the environment. The Vice Dean for Community Service, the Political Science Head of Department and the Programme Director, discussed each photo with the participants and awarded them a certificate of participation. The winner, Sarah Hisham Salah Ali Gad, degree year one student, was awarded a certificate of appreciation and a monetary prize of 1000 EGP.

As part of the Political Science Community Service Team’s initiative to contribute to society and fulfill its communal responsibility towards education in Egypt. We have made a visit as a team to Ammar Ibn Yasser School, Alwayeli in Cairo to deliver school supplies (crayons and sketches). Moreover, the team has been able to provide winter jackets and sneakers for 50 students.

As part of the Political Science department’s community service efforts, the Public Policy and Administration teaching team has invited an official from the Ministry of the Environment, Ms. Nesreen Baz, to give a talk to the student on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018. The lecture tackled the issue of how environmental public policy is made in Egypt. The guest speaker highlighted Egypt’s achievements in the area of environmental protection, as well as the obstacles it faces in formulating public policy. The floor was open for questions and comments, whereby students raised very important points and recommendations.

As part of the community service plan to promote diversity, academic intercultural communication, research, and participation in international programs; the Political Science department held a lecture on Sunday November 11th, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 in G-LH-3 delivered by Soliya representative in Egypt. Ms. Asmaa gave the students an overview of the facilitated dialogue program “Connect Program” offered by Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange, a new initiative funded by the European Commission.

The department looks forward to a future fruitful partnership with Soliya.

As part of the community service plan to engage youth in serving their community and be aware of their role in politics and society, the Department of Political Science hosted a talk given by Dr. Youssef El Wardany, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports on Sunday, November 4th, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 in G-CR-9.  During the lecture, Dr. El Wardany discussed the importance of youth participation in policy-making, challenges faced by the ministry and the opportunities and resources the ministry is willing to offer to startup businesses by the youth. He also introduced the Ministry’s initiative to support youth’s proposals that aim to develop the agendas formulated by Egyptian Ministries. A call for applications will be open for students interested in public policy and development strategies to participate in a competition sponsored by the Ministry.

Community as a word is used to define who we are, and in this event we celebrated the success of a great branch of who we are in essence as an Egyptian society able to embrace differently abled persons into the community. This also reflected BUE’ support of real inclusivity into our academic staff and student community.

On March 10th, the BAEPS Faculty hosted a session on different abilities presented by Al Hassan Foundation. The presentation given by Mrs. May Zein founder of Differently Abled foundation was about the experience of a life time commitment and perseverance to divert a crisis into a great light of positive energy. It was based on explaining all the activities of the foundation that have been recognized locally and lately internationally in Vienna by the UN to shed a light for all our students that life is still full of opportunities for everyone who knocks on the right door seeing a light at the end of the tunnel of any crisis.

The Business Department aims at providing social services by collaborating with organizations in the industry. In its best efforts to achieve such a goal and to empower talented students, Dr. May Fahmy the Advertising Lecturer at BAEPS in cooperation with Dr. Zeinab Younis the Associate Professor at BAEPS and director of the Research Centre for Innovation, Governance and Green Economy have asked Dr. Heba El Sewedy the founder of Ahl Masr Foundation to send a creative brief for the Advertising students to actually work on.

During the semester three groups have worked on the creative brief of “Burn Prevention and Awareness Communication Campaign” of Ahl Masr Foundation in their Advertising projects, whereas one of those teams; which was led by the Marketing student Omar Abdelmonem Youssef (ID: 128888) showed interest in developing a new creative concept for the campaign of Ahl Masr Foundation. Accordingly, Dr. May has provided them with the required practical mentorship to enable them to professionally develop and present a creative concept.

During March 2018, Omar Abdelmonem has presented the creative concept to  the board of Ahl Masr; where he has received very positive feedback on his outstanding and creative presentation; moreover, they have requested from him to move forward and bring the concept to life by producing the ad.
