AUDIT SIMULATION AT THE BUE

On 10th and 11th December, 2009, 11 BUE students on the Accounting major in the Department of Business Administration took part in an Audit Simulation conducted by Ahmed Medhat and Doha Essam, both Senior Auditors in one of the big 4 international audit firms; Price Waterhouse Cooper, based in New Cairo. The workshop, which was organised by Rasha Kassem (Assistant Lecturer in Accounting and Auditing in the Business Department), gave the students an insight into what really happens in the Audit and Accounting profession through examples and real life case studies. The students were taught how to accumulate and evaluate audit evidence, and issue an audit report. They were divided into teams and required to do role plays as Financial controllers, auditors, audit committee members and judges. Each of the students received an attendance certificate and the winning team received a prize of 500 L.E. . When asked about the simulation exercise, Rasha said “An Audit simulation such as this is very important as it gives our Accounting students an idea about what is happening in the real world, what certificates are needed in the market, and what opportunities there are after graduation. It gives them “real life” experience”. Commenting on her experience with the simulation, one of the participating students (Sherine Emad) said “Now we know something real about the Accounting profession”
