2- Practical Visit to "Conculting Engineering Company CEC" - 2017
In order to add to the students background on the power plant systems. The Mechanical Engineering department organised a practical visit for year four mechancial engineering students to Consulting Engineering Company (CEC). The aim of the visit is to link Energy Conversion module theoritical data to practical analysis given by the company seniors. Moreover, the visit will assist the students through the module project. This visit included two main topics. The first was focusing on the different types of power generation plants. The first topic was conducted by the Senior Mechanical Engineer Eng. Ahmed El Ghazi. The second topic was handling the selection criteria for the location of the plant and the cost wise of the process. The second topic was conducted by an expertise in the electrical networks Dr. Ahmed Hegazi.
3- International robotics competition RoboGames - 2016
Under the patronage of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mt Farid Khamis, the Faculty of Engineering at The British University in Egypt has participated in the annual international robotics competition RoboGames in San Francisco in Aril 2016. The BUE was the only team representing Egypt and Arab countries in the completion. RoboGames is the Olympics of Robots and is the World’s Largest Robot Competition according to the Guinness Book of Records and is organized by the Robotics Society of America.
The BUE team this year has has managed to obtain a record number of medals totalling four medals, 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. This is the best performance for a BUE team ever. The team won a gold medal in the “Open Best of Show” event for a robot which automatically dispenses plant seeds in soil. Additionally, the BUE team also won gold for the first place in the “Walker Challenge” were a spider robot was designed to autonomously walk over an obstacle filled 3 meter course. A silver medal was won in the “Maze/MicroMouse” event in which an autonomous robot is to find its way from a start position to a target position in a maze. The bronze medal was won for third place in the “Speeder” event in which a solar powered robot is designed to race a certain distance without external power or storage.
