How do I know if nursing is for me?
Very few professions allow you to have such a profound impact on lives of people and their families. If helping people is important, this career is for you!
Never a dull moment! The challenge is tremendous; a very exciting career that takes intelligence, bravery, and decision making.
A professional career in nursing has something for everyone: you can get a job in any city or country; you can work when you want to: morning, evening or night shift. If you like longer periods of time off to travel or enjoy your family, you can work 12-hour shifts and have 3 or 4 days off in a row.
If you like excitement, you can work in the emergency room or be an army or navy nurse or work up in remote areas dealing with emergency cases
If you like being part of happy occasions, you can work in the delivery room where babies make their way into the world or the nursery where new parents learn how to take care of their babies
If you like a new and different challenge every day, you can be a home health nurse going into the community to help people recover from their illnesses and educate them to be healthy in their own homes or be a school nurse if you like to have summers off to be with your children.
Dealing with life-and-death situations is sometimes difficult, but it is also the wonderful challenge that makes nursing such a satisfying career choice. One of good things about nursing is that if you get tired of your job, there are lots of other things you can do in nursing that will make it fun again.
It takes a special person to be a nurse. Nursing is a hard work but if you take pride in your job, the rewards are there.
Why study Nursing?
Nurses are among the most in-demand professionals. It is a profession for everyone. Nurses are central to health care and make a difference in the lives of individuals through one-on-one care, in communities through health promotion or even more broadly through research and leadership. Nurses positively affect the health of all citizens.

In many fields it can be difficult to predict the market for jobs. But the need for good health care will never go away, and if you choose nursing, the likelihood for employment soon after graduation is very strong no matter what kind of practice you desire because of: population growth, ageing population and rising severity of health problems.

The worldwide shortage in efficient nurses has increased salaries and job opportunities. Earnings are above average, especially for advanced practice nurses who have additional education or training.

Nursing Future Career Opportunities
The skills and knowledge you will acquire are highly marketable. You can choose one area of interest when you begin to study nursing, and then explore new educational and career opportunities as you gain experience in the workforce.

You can work in a fast-paced emergency hospital department, a busy community health centre with children, seniors or whole communities.
You can become a university professor, senior executive or world-renowned researcher and work hard in partnership with employers and government to enrich the working environment.

You can focus on health promotion, health education and illness prevention at the community level. Nurses require the knowledge, skills and expertise needed to deal with increasingly complex illnesses and medical equipment working with the medical team.

You can get involved in clinical research and nursing science or become leaders in health care. Nurses with advanced education may become senior executives in organizations
